September 15-20, 2024 Astana will host the 48th ICPC World Finals Championship, the world's most prestigious collegiate programming competition, to be held in Central Asia for the first time. 142 teams have qualified for this year's Championship, out of a pool of 70,000 participants, representing 3,000 universities across 111 countries representing prestigious universities, such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge etc. Kazakhstan will be represented by 5 teams from the leading technical universities. Participants will compete in the 5-hour competition on September 19, 2024. Participants who have passed a multi-tier selection process will be competing for the title of the best algorithmic problem solver. The competition will be intense, as they only have 5 hours to vie for the championship title.
The Kazakh programmer Batyr Sardarbekov won a gold medal at the 2023 ICPC World Finals, becoming the first ICPC World Finals winner among the Kazakhs. His success became an important indicator of the competitive programming and IT-sphere development in Kazakhstan and inspired a new generation of programmers. Participation in the ICPC World Finals is highly valued in the IT-sphere, the finalists of the international competitive programming contest have the opportunity to network with leaders from the world's leading IT companies onsite.
On September 16, 2024 officials and global IT-leaders will participate in the 2024 ICPC World Finals Opening Ceremony. Among the honored guests: ICPC Foundation President Bill Poucher, CEO of Freedom Holding Corp. Timur Turlov, President of the Kazakhstan Competitive Programming Federation Bagdat Mussin, representatives of Huawei, JetBrains and others. The ICPC World Finals program also includes the ICPC Challenge, powered by Huawei, and a unique blind-coding workshop conducted by JetBrains

All ICPC World Finals events, except the Opening & Awards Ceremonies, will be held on the territory of the International Exhibition Center EXPO.
Teams from Kazakhstan have been actively participating in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for 20 years. The Kazakhstan Federation of Competitive Programming was founded in 2023. The first major project of the organization was the Kazakhstan Competitive Programming Championship in 2023, which was attended by 3,450 people. Since then, 11 Federation offices have been opened throughout Kazakhstan, training approximately 400 students, with 592 computer science teachers having participated in the training and competitions. The Federation is actively developing the IT-industry, paying great attention to competitive programming development in the country, promoting participation of Kazakh teams in international competitions and organizing the ICPC World Finals in Astana.
