On September 16 at 16:30, the Presidential Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan will host the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 ICPC World Finals, the world's most prestigious collegiate programming competition, in which the best teams from around the world take part every year. Six teams from Kazakhstan took part in the 2023 ICPC World Finals in Luxor, Egypt, with Kazakhstan's Batyr Sardarbekov winning a gold medal, becoming the first ICPC cChampion in the history of our country. This year, out of 59 000 participants representing 111 countries and 3000 universities, 142 teams from universities around the world have advanced to the World Finals after successfully competing at their regional and national levels. . Kazakhstan will be represented by five teams from the country's leading technical universities. This event is an important step for Kazakhstan in strengthening its status as a key IT hub in Central Asia.
The Opening Ceremony will be attended by the Deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev. The development of digital technologies and the IT industry in the country is actively supported by the state. Kazakhstan is introducing advanced technologies, including 5G and national platforms for artificial intelligence, which strengthens the country's position as a regional leader in the field of digital transformation.
Relevant ministers of Kazakhstan, including Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev, Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Tourism and Sports Yerbol Myrzabosynov are invited to the ceremony. ICPC President Bill Poucher, CEO of «Freedom Holding Corp.» Timur Turlov and President of the Sports Programming Federation of Kazakhstan Bagdat Mussin. The opening of the World Finals will be the start of a rich program, which is scheduled from September 15 to 20 in Astana. The program of the championship includes the ICPC Challenge powered by Huawei, a unique master class on blind-coding conducted by JetBrains and former world champions, as well as a variety of other activities. The Champions of the 2024 ICPC World Finals will be announced on September 19, afterthe finalists have completed the five-hour competition by solving algorithmic problems using code, in a limited time with a minimum number of errors and incorrect attempts.
Teams from Kazakhstan have been actively participating in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for 20 years. The Kazakhstan Federation of Competitive Programming was established in 2023. The first significant project of the organization was the Kazakhstan Championship in Competitive Programming, which was held in the same year and attracted 3450 participants. Since then, 11 representative offices of the Federation have been opened throughout Kazakhstan, approximately 400 students have been trained and 592 computer science teachers have participated in training and competitions. The Federation is actively developing the IT industry, pays great attention to the development of sports programming in the country, promotes the participation of Kazakhstani teams in international competitions and is the host organizer of the 2024 ICPC World Finals in Astana.
